With more than 11 years in the legal form business, LawDepot, our “TopTenREVIEWS Silver Award” winner, has created one of the easiest to use legal services on the Internet. LawDepot doesn’t require you to download anything. All forms are completed online using an interview style questionnaire to assist you in your legal needs. They have documents which can be used in the US, Canada, UK and Australia. All forms are completed online and can be previewed for free.
All of LawDepot's forms are state specific and regularly modified. They guarantee all forms are valid and up–to–date. They will pay $100 to the first person that finds a flaw with one of their forms.
While LawDepot is a great, easy–to–use legal service, they didn't offer nearly as many form choices as our #1 ranked service, US Legal, nor do they give you the option to simply download your chosen form.
LawDepot has a fair selection of forms for the US and Canada. They also have a small assortment of forms for the UK and Australia.
LawDepot has a wide range of legal categories including wills, real estate, business and marriage. All of LawDepot's forms are designed to be filled out online using a question/answer style questionnaire to help you complete your forms. You fill out the forms by answering the question and filling in the appropriate fields on the screen. When you have finished filling in all the required fields, you submit your answers and a form is created especially for you. LawDepot allows you to complete and preview a form prior to purchase.
There is also a convenient question mark feature on the questionnaires, which when moused over, explains legal definitions and jargon.
Not all forms are available in all states.
LawDepot has many legal resources to assist you in your legal matters. These include legal dictionaries, both US and Canadian, as well as a legal FAQ and preparation services. Unfortunately, some of these resources are difficult to locate.
Many of LawDepot’s additional resources are under the “LawDepot” tab at the top of the screen and within a drop–down box there is a “useful links” link. This link will take you to many of LawDepot’s additional resources regarding business, employment and dictionaries.
The convenience of the question mark feature directly on the forms may negate the requirement for a legal dictionary, but it is a handy tool none the less.
For an additional fee, LawDepot will review your submitted form for you. Their trained staff knows what a court will and will not allow. Sometimes something as little as a misspelled word or format error can void a legal document.
This is one of the easiest legal services we found. The interview style form leaves little room for error. You simply answer the questions and a form is designed specifically for you. A unique feature to LawDepot is their “edit words” option. Unlike other legal services, using the question/answer method, LawDepot allows you to edit text other than the questions you were asked.
LawDepot does not offer the option to download the forms to a Word or PDF file. They only offer their forms in the online format.
Purchasing a form can be done in a variety of ways including individually or by subscription. Individual forms are priced according to their complexity. A bill of sale is cheaper than a divorce. You may buy a single use license, which allows you access to edit your form for two weeks or a multiple use license, which allows you to access and edit your form for one year.
There is a subscription option. For $72.00 you have unlimited access to all LawDepot’s forms for three months.
One frustrating feature regarding cost and the interview style format–we found you cannot see how much a form costs prior to filling it out.
Customer support is available through telephone and email. We found that LawDepot’s FAQ answered many of our questions prior to contact. They have an online chat feature which was regularly active.
Although LawDepot was a smaller service than US Legal, they provide an easy–to–use and straight forward approach to legal forms. This service is great for those with very little knowledge of the law.
